John's Story
Toby found my mom for me in January '04. As I've since learned, both my birthmother and I had been searching for each other for some time, using all the usual resources, signing up in all the reunion databases, the works. None of these efforts had produced any results.
In addition, I had spent the better part of two years soliciting paid reunion services. Most were way too expensive, and the worst part was, I couldn't shake the feeling that most of them were scams. But after about 30 seconds on the phone with Toby, I knew that she would be the one to find my mom. It wasn't just her obvious experience and confidence; I got a vibe from her that was unlike any other service I spoke to (my birthmom reported the same thing based on her brief conversation with Toby).
What Toby brings to this enterprise—and it really does appear to be unique in this business—is a sincere, heartfelt passion for reuniting birthfamilies. She loves doing what she does, and it shows. Every time she would uncover what seemed to be the most inconsequential clue, I'd get an excited update from her. This was totally unnecessary in a business sense, but it made all the difference in the world for me. Perhaps more important, though, is the fact that Toby is a birthmom herself. As such, she has insight into the emotional aspects of these reunions that no South Florida hole in the wall service can offer. In the midst of such an emotional endeavor as finding one's birthparents, such insight is priceless.
If you've been looking for your birthfamily, and you're ready to do it right, give Toby a call. I'm sure glad I did.
