Minnesota Becomes 15th State to Acknowledge Adoptee Birth Record Equality

Minnesota’s history of sealed adoption records and an intermediary system made it nearly impossible for adoptees to obtain their Original Birth Certificates. Legislation this year lifted all restrictions. Minnesota is the 15th state to acknowledge the right of adopted people to obtain their Original Birth Certificate upon request with no conditions or restrictions. The new law takes effect on July 1, 2024.
